Table Dimensions and Room Size Requirements

Pool Table Dimensions:

Table Size Inside Dimensions (i.e. Play Area) Outside Dimensions (Approximate)
7' 39" x 78" 50" x 89"
8' (Home Standard) 44" x 88" 55" x 100"
9' (Professional Standard) 50" x 100" 62" x 112"

The outside dimensions are approximate since the rails on the side of the table can vary in size. The inside, or bumper to bumper dimensions, will always be the same. And for determining what size table will allow for proper game play in your space these are the dimensions that matter since the ball never goes past the bumper (well let's hope not!).

For full play with a full size 58" cue stick on every shot the following room dimensions are needed:

Table Size Room Dimensions
7' 12' 10" x 16' 2"
8' 13' 4" x 17'
9' 13' 10" x 18'

Since shorter cue sticks are always available here are the room dimensions required for those:

Table Size 52" Cue 48" Cue
7' 11' 8" x 15' 4" 11' 2" x 14' 6"
8' 12' 6" x 16' 2" 11' 10" x 15' 4"
9' 13' 6" x 17' 6" 12' 6" x 16' 4"

We don't recommend shoehorning an 8' or 9' table into a room where a short cue will be required on every shot. But if you are just a few inches shy on either the width or length, or have an obstruction like a single pole or a closet or TV in one corner, you can certainly consider going with the bigger table. Your best bet is to call or visit us and we can guide you towards the proper size table for your space.
